LibreCAD is crashing constantly

Hi,

I just joined to figure out why my program keeps crashing since yesterday. It gets progressively worse. Haven’t found any answers, so I would like to post a question to the community out there for help,

Thanks for your time!

Remember to add os and LibreCad version info.

Hi all,

Since 2 days or so Librecad is quiting unexpectedly on me and the problem seems to be getting progressively worse. I use Librecad V2.2.1.5, Qt version 5.15.18. However I have uninstalled it and tried different versions of Librecad and the same issue is happening. Initially it felt it quit at random. However, now it quits for sure with specific functions, like going to Menu >Options> Current Drawing Preferences. It may be a LibreCAD issue, however, I am wondering if ZorinOS (18.1) recently had an update that is not compatible with LibreCAD, and if so, is there a way to return to the previous?

I have run LibreCAD for a year, year and a half now, or so, even maybe two, on the same computer and OS. Never had any problems. However, I also am currently working on the most complex drawing to date (which I think is by no means anywhere near the limitations of the software, since I am still quite new to the program).

Last attempt yesterday I installed Librecad Version: v2.2.1-2-g101a2ef7
Compiler: GNU GCC 11.4.0
Compiled on: Jan 14 2025
Qt Version: 5.15.11
Boost Version: 1.74.0
System: Ubuntu Core 22

Seems to be working better, but still quits with (for example) ‘Trim Two’ (crashes on/ after/because of a segmentation fault?)

Please be patient, despite me running Linux and such, I am quite a ludite, and my knowledge of IT is not huge.

Dell inspirion 15 35-11
11th Gen Intel® Core™ i5-1135G7 × 8

Intel® Iris® Xe Graphics (TGL GT2)

Zorin OS 18.1 Core, 64-bit

well, all versions you’ve mentioned are quite stable, so I suspect that it could be either

  1. some errors that are data-specific and occur due to the data - i.e. - the way how the drawing is created. Is is possible for you to attach the drawing file for inspections?

  2. something outside of LibreCAD - for example, issues with RAM (on physical level) - if some addresses range there is physically degraded, various unexpected segmentation faults may occur. Try to perform detailed memory check (via memcheck or so).

You may try development version 2.2.2 which is not released and is in alpha state - available here:

Yet note that it uses Qt6 (64 bit) and is less stable than 2.2.1

Ok, not all solved. However, I did see where I went wrong in trying to recreate the crash. When I tried to trim two lines, I accidentally selected a dimension line, instead of my wall line and I can see that that does not work.

It doesn’t explain why V2.2.1.5. kept progressively crashing worse in the last week after having it used with no problems for over a year, but the version I switched to seems to be working fine. Memory check came out OK.

Thanks for your quick responses!

Could you find steps to reproduce the issue or the call stack of the crash?

I haven’t reinstalled the first version to recreate the crashes. I don’t recall what prompted the crashes initially, but it ended with just trying to open the ‘Current Drawing Preferences’. However, I think most functions at that point caused the software to quit.

I have had no problems anymore with V2.2.1-2-g101a2ef7.

I tested the latest 2.2.1 branch in ubuntu, and no crash with general usages including “Current Drawing Preferences”.

Please collect a list of the callstack to help identify the crashes at your side.
