Hi everyone,

I am looking for a practical way to copy the automatically calculated numerical value of a dimension object to paste it into another document or program. However, I have run into some workflow challenges while trying to do this.

Here is what I have experienced with the current methods:

- **Using the Properties window :** The label field naturally appears as `<>`, so I cannot select or copy the actual raw value measured by the program from there.
- **Using the Explode tool:** I can explode the dimension to turn the value into independent text. However, since this destroys the dynamic structure of the dimension, I have to undo the action (`Ctrl+Z`) every time, which slows down the workflow significantly.

Is there a shortcut, a plugin, or perhaps an alternative method that I might have missed to directly copy the measured value of a dimension without breaking the object?

If this is not currently possible, adding a read-only “Actual Value” field to the Properties window could be a wonderful improvement for future releases.

Thank you in advance for your ideas and help!

that’s a good point. We should implement this one in the development branch. Ideally, a “Copy Value” entry can be added to the right click menu on a dimension.

I’ve created a ticked for this feature in project’s tracker, so one day it will be integrated.

@akcan
For now, as a workaround, you may rely on Info-\>Distance Point to Point command, and measure the distance between dimension’s extensions points. That measured value will be the same is for dimension and it will be show in Cmd widget - and could be copied from there.
